Adult Survivor Groups
Family Service of Roanoke Valley currently offers Adult Survivor Groups (ASG). It is the only agency in the state to provide this specific type of therapy.
What is ASG? Adult Survivor Group is a Yalom-based, professionally-led process group for individuals of both genders who experienced childhood sexual abuse. The focus of group is on here-and-now issues involving triggers, relationships, trust, self-concept, self-care, and lifestyle. Various treatment approaches are utilized which encompass methods drawn from insight-oriented, cognitive-behavioral, expressive, psycho-educational, and dialectical behavior therapy skill treatments. Please note that ASG groups are not available to perpetrators.
What to Expect: Initial interview: designated to determine eligibility, fit for group and readiness, gather history, determine goals for group therapy, provide information about expectations and nature of group experience, and establish an agreement with participants in regard to rules and responsibilities relevant to participation.
- Co-facilitation: weekly sessions are lead by two group leaders/facilitators.
- Both groups are open to adults ages 18+ who have experienced childhood sexual abuse.
- Funding for both groups* may be available.

Adult Survivor Group
Day & Time: Wednesdays 5:00pm to 6:30pm
Length: 24 weeks
Dialectical Behavior Therapy Based Adult Survivor Group
Day & Time: Wednesdays 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Length: 24 weeks
Approach: DBT concepts will be introduced, taught, and implemented.
