September 12, 2012 - Family Service of Roanoke Valley’s accreditation status has been renewed by the Council on Accreditation (COA). COA’s commitment to maintaining the highest level of standards and quality improvement is designed to identify providers that have set high performance standards for themselves, and who have made a commitment to their constituents to deliver the highest quality services. COA is proud to recognize Family Service of Roanoke Valley (FSRV) as one of these outstanding providers. COA accreditation is an objective and reliable verification that provides confidence and support to an organization’s service recipients, board members, staff and community partners. The COA accreditation process involves a detailed review and analysis of both an organization’s administrative operations and its service delivery practices. All are measured against national standards of best practice. These standards emphasize services that are accessible, appropriate, culturally responsive, evidence-based, and outcomes-oriented. In addition, they confirm that the services are provided by a skilled and supported workforce, and that all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. Because COA reviews and accredits the entire organization, not just specific programs, the community can have confidence in the credibility, integrity and achievement of Family Service of Roanoke Valley. COA congratulates FSRV for its hard work and wonderful achievement, and is proud to include Family Service in its Community of Excellence.

Mental Health America is proud to continue its tradition of celebrating "May is Mental Health Month", which began in 1949 to raise awareness of mental health conditions and mental wellness for all. This year, they are addressing these important issues through two themes: "Do More for 1 in 4" is a call to action to help the 1 in 4 American adults who live with a diagnosable, treatable mental health condition and the fact that they can go on to live full and productive lives. The second theme, "Healing Trauma's Invisible Wounds",
focuses on the impact of traumatic events on individuals and communities.
It centers around asking the person-based question: "What happened to you?"

PROJECT BACK ON TRACK: 2011-2012
A Collaborative of the City of Roanoke, Family Service of Roanoke Valley and the Carilion Clinic Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine
WHAT?
Project Back on Track is an evidence-based program proven to effectively address adolescent substance use, which offers FREE intensive and comprehensive services to Roanoke City youth, who are struggling with the challenges of substance abuse. Through funding from the Department of Criminal Justice Services, the City of Roanoke will purchase services from the Carilion Clinic and Family Service of Roanoke Valley to implement the interventions that define this program model. Leading the collaborative effort in 2011-12 is the Carilion Clinic’s Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The goals of the program are to achieve long term recovery from substance use.
